Årstafältet - an introduction
Årstafältet is one of Stockholms largest urban development projects.
At Årstafältet the city of Stockholm plan to build over 6,000 homes for 15 000 new residents, and several office blocks. The city's goal is to create an attractive living environment, with a mixture of city life and green areas. Årstafältet is going to be a bicycle-friendly area with 11 kilometers of bicycle path, and is also one of the new areas in Stockholm that will have its own subway station.
The new park at Årstafältet will be about 25 hectares in size and contain activities and different types of greenery. The city also plan for preschools for 1 800 children, three primary schools with associated sports halls and an 11-game football pitch.
The Årstafältet-project is focused on meetings; between different people, between new and old and between urban city life and nature. Variation is a key word and it can be seen in the complexity of the buildings with different types, heights, shapes and styles.
The goal is to attract people with different backgrounds, culture, family situation and lifestyle to the district.
